Brian Kime
Brian Kime is a career intelligence professional with almost two decades of experience in the field between the United States Army, large enterprises, cybersecurity vendors, and as an industry analyst. He has a proven track record of success in developing and implementing threat intelligence programs, as well as providing strategic guidance to organizations on how to mitigate cyber risk.
Brian is a retired U.S. Army major. He served twenty years combined active and reserve. As a military intelligence officer, he served in strategic, operational, and tactical assignments including a deployment to Afghanistan where he was attached to U.S. Army Special Forces conducting Village Stability Operations in remote, austere districts of the country. As a reservist, Brian helped create the Army Reserve’s first Defensive Cyberspace Operations Intelligence Support team. He culminated his career as one of the founding members of the U.S. Army Reserve Innovation Command where he scouted for emerging technologies and used his civilian cybersecurity expertise to test and validate new tools.
After demobilizing, Brian took his passion for intelligence to the private sector cybersecurity domain. He started his cyber threat intelligence career at Dell SecureWorks. As a SecureWorks consultant, he created the CTI function for a Fortune 100 financial services company. Following the Russian cyberattacks on the Ukrainian electric grid in 2015 and 2016, Brian was recruited to Southern Company, then the 2nd largest critical infrastructure asset owner in the United States, to defend the bulk electric system from state-nexus threat actors. Forrester Research then recruited him to lead the threat intelligence, vulnerability management, and ICS/OT security research portfolios. He is the author of the first Forrester Waves on External Threat Intelligence Services and ICS Security. In recent years, he was VP of Intelligence Strategy and Advisory at ZeroFox and Associate Director of Threat Intelligence, Hunting, and Detection Engineering at Carrier Global Corporation
Brian is a sought-after speaker and trainer on threat intelligence, and he has presented at numerous conferences and events around the world. He is also the author of multiple SANS Gold Papers on threat intelligence and has been quoted by CNN, Reuters, The Telegraph, US Today, and more.
Brian formerly held many security certifications including CISSP, GLEG, GPEN, GCFA, GCCC, GCPM, GCIA, GCIH, GSEC and is a U.S. Army Cyber Operations Planner. He holds master of science degrees from the SANS Technology Institute and Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Tech.
